ALMOST a third of Republicans believe a farfetched conspiracy theory that Donald Trump will be "reinstated" as president by the end of the year, a poll has found.
The survey, conducted by Politico/Morning Consult, found that 29percent of self-identified Republicans believe it will be very or somewhat likely that Trump will reassume the role of the commander-in-chief by the year's end.

Still, a decisive majority said they didn't believe the claims, with 39 percent saying they thought it was "not likely at all" and 22 percent said it was "not very likely."
More than eight in 10 Democrats — 84 percent — and 70 percent of independents also dismiss the notion of Trump's potential return.
All in all, 19 percent of the 1,990 registered voters surveyed for the poll said it was either “somewhat likely” or “very likely” Trump will be reinstated.
"That's actually something that appears to be resonating fairly deeply with Republican voters,' Morning Consult senior editor Cameron Easley said in an on SiriusXM on Wednesday.
Easley added that he thought the 29 percent of GOP voters who supported the theory was an "eye-popping number."

The survey's findings come just over a week since the New York Times' Maggie Haberman reported that Trump has been telling supporters he expects to be reinstated as president by August.
Haberman also said he's been pressuring conservative media to legitimize his conspiracy theories that the 2020 election was rigged against him.
“And none of that is possible. But this is the kind of thing that he is trying to flush into the conservative media ecosystem,” Haberman said during an appearance on CNN.
“And I expect it to get more intense the more he is under investigation by the Manhattan district attorney and the state attorney general in New York and the threat of indictment over the coming months.”
The conspiracy theory that Trump could be reinstated has become popular among followers of Q-Anon, some of whom are also anticipating a Myanmar-style coup to restore Trump's presidential power.
It stems from the false claims of election fraud peddled by Trump and some of his closest allies.

Meanwhile, election officials across the country have maintained that last year’s presidential election was one of the safest in history and denied the possibility its results were skewered by widespread fraud.
Some of Trump's allies and former aides have supported the reinstatement theory, including fired Trump attorney Sidney Powell.
Lara Trump, Trump's daughter-in-law, meanwhile has denied reports that he's betting on a White House return by August.
"Maybe there's something I don't know…but no. I think that is a lot of folks getting a little worked up about something just because maybe there wasn't enough pushback from the Republican side," she said on Fox News.
"So no, I have not heard any plans for Donald Trump to be installed in the White House in August."

Amid the speculation, Trump vowed in a press release last week that the GOP was going to take back the White House "sooner than you think", adding "it's going to be something special."
The Politico/Morning Consult's poll, released Wednesday, also found 59 percent of Republican voters polled said they wish to see Trump play a major role in the party going forward.
Trump hasn't yet confirmed whether he plans to run in 2024, though has dropped a number of hints, and suggested he'd confirm his decision after the 2022 midterms.
"As you know, it's very early. But I think people are going to be very, very happy when I make a certain announcement," Trump said on a podcast last month.
"You know for campaign finance reasons, you really can't do it too early because it becomes a whole different thing."
In another key finding, 77 of all respondents said that they believe America’s democracy is being threatened, including 82 percent of Republicans and 77 percent of Democrats.
And just four in 10 Republicans said they had at least "some" confidence in the electoral system.
