Big majority of Americans support sanctions on Russia, aid to Ukraine, poll finds A Washington Post-ABC News poll finds Americans are stalwart in their support of Ukraine two months after Russia launched its invasion of the country, with a large, bipartisan majority supporting increased sanctions against Russia and most also backing military and humanitarian support for Ukrainians. At the same time, 72 percent oppose the U.S. taking direct military action against Russian forces, while 21 percent support the idea. Even among those who say the United States is doing too little to support Ukraine, 57 percent oppose direct military action, something President Biden has said is off the table, repeatedly warning that such a move could lead to “World War III.”
