Thanksgiving is probably the most important American holiday and is of special significance to us Freemasons. While other holidays relating to the Deity involve prayers that are religious in susbtance and form, Thanksgiving is a time when we Americans (and Canadians) give "thanks" to the deity for the blessings that we have and/or about to receive in a non-dogmatic/non-religious manner. This holiday, the origins of which go back to the early pilgrims giving "thanks for the harvest", has become over time a national holiday Universal to all Americans of all backgrounds, origins, religions, and ethnicities; Americans on this holiday give thanks to and invoke the blessings of deity in unison. How Masonic!!! We, the religiously, racially, ethnically, socially, and politically diverse members of the Society of Freemasons are taught to invoke the blessing of deity before engaging in any great or important undertaking.
