Putin orders Ukraine border tightening as drones hit Russia
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Regional officials in southern and western Russia reported a string of drone attacks near the border with Ukraine and deep inside the country that caused no casualties, but provoked a security stir Tuesday, as the war with Kyiv stretched into its second year.
The hacking of Russian television channels and radio stations, and the temporary closure of airspace around St. Petersburg’s airport, fed suspicion that Kyiv could be behind the disruption.
Ukrainian officials didn’t immediately claim responsibility for the attacks, but they similarly avoided directly acknowledging responsibility for previous strikes and sabotage while emphasizing Ukraine’s right to hit any target in Russia following the full-scale invasion that began last year.
A flurry of drone attacks on Monday night and Tuesday morning targeted regions inside Russia along the border with Ukraine and deeper into the country, with one drone crashing just 100 kilometers (60 miles) away from Moscow, according to local Russian authorities.
The drone didn’t inflict any damage, Vorobyov said. He didn’t specifically describe the drone as Ukrainian, but said that it likely targeted “a civilian infrastructure object.”
Pictures of the drone showed it was a Ukrainian-made type. It reportedly has a range of up to 800 kilometers (nearly 500 miles), but isn’t capable of carrying a large load of explosives.
Russian forces early Tuesday shot down a Ukrainian drone over the Bryansk region, local Gov. Aleksandr Bogomaz said in a Telegram post. He said there were no casualties.
Three drones also targeted Russia’s Belgorod region on Monday night, with one flying through an apartment window in its namesake capital, local authorities reported. Regional Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov said the drones caused minor damage to buildings and cars but no casualties.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukraine used drones to attack facilities in the Krasnodar region and neighboring Adygea. It said the drones were brought down by electronic warfare assets, adding that one of them crashed into a field and another diverted from its designated flight path and missed an infrastructure facility it was supposed to attack.
While Ukrainian drone strikes on the Russian border regions of Bryansk and Belgorod that lie north of Ukraine’s Sumy region aren’t unusual, the hits on the Krasnodar and Adygea regions further south are noteworthy.
A fire broke out at an oil depot in Russia’s Krasnodar region on Monday, Russia’s state RIA Novosti agency reported. Russian Telegram channels claimed that two drones exploded near the depot.
A drone also crashed overnight in a field in Adygea, located about 600 kilometers (370 miles) east of Crimea, regional Gov. Murat Kumpilov said on Telegram. He said no one was hurt in the attack, which damaged some farm buildings.
While some Russian commentators described Tuesday’s drone attacks as an attempt by Ukraine to showcase its capability to strike areas deep behind the lines, foment tensions in Russia and rally the Ukrainian public, some Russian war bloggers described the raids as a possible rehearsal of a bigger, more ambitious attack.
Last year, Russian authorities repeatedly reported shooting down Ukrainian drones over annexed Crimea. In December, the Russian military said Ukraine used drones to hit two bases for long-range bombers deep inside Russian territory.
Separately, the local government of St. Petersburg — Russia’s second-largest city about 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) north of the border with Ukraine — said early Tuesday that it was temporarily halting all flight departures and arrivals at the city’s main airport, Pulkovo. It didn’t give a reason for the move.
Hours earlier, unconfirmed reports on Russia’s Telegram social network referred to the airspace over St. Petersburg being shut down and to Russian warplane overflights. It wasn’t immediately clear whether this was connected to the alleged uptick in drone attacks in Russia’s south. The Russian military said its air defense forces in Western Russia conducted drills on “detection, interception and identification” of enemy targets in its airspace, and in coordination with civilian air traffic services in an emergency situation.
The Russian Defense Ministry didn’t specifically mention St. Petersburg, but its statement appeared designed to explain the temporary closure of the airspace.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refused to comment on the situation in St. Petersburg, urging reporters to wait for details from the country’s aviation authorities or the military.
He noted, however, that President Vladimir Putin had “full information” on the situation.
Speaking at Russia’s main security agency, the FSB, Putin urged the service to tighten security on the border with Ukraine.
Russian media reported on Tuesday morning that in several Russian regions an air raid alarm interrupted the programming of several TV channels and radio stations.
Footage posted by some news sites showed TV sets displaying a yellow sign with a person heading to a bomb shelter, with a female voice repeating: “Attention! Air raid alarm. Everyone should head to a shelter immediately.”
Russia’s Emergency Ministry said in an online statement that the announcement was a hoax “resulting from a hacking of the servers of radio stations and TV channels in some regions of the country.”
Inside Ukraine, authorities said Tuesday that at least two civilians were killed by renewed Russian shelling in the southern city of Kherson and surrounding villages and 17 more were wounded in fighting over the previous 24 hours.
The fiercest fighting continued to be in eastern areas of Ukraine, where Russia wants control over all four of the provinces it illegally annexed in September.
Ukrainian officials said that Russian forces have deployed additional troops and equipment, including modern T-90 tanks, in those areas.
Meanwhile, satellite photos analyzed by The Associated Press appear to show a Beriev A-50 early warning aircraft was parked at a Belarus air base just before a claimed attack by partisans there.
Images from Planet Labs PBC shows the A-50, a late Soviet era aircraft known for its distinctive rotodome above its fuselage, parked at the northern apron of the Machulishchy Air Base near Minsk, Belarus’ capital, on Feb. 19.
A lower-resolution image taken on Feb. 23 shows a similarly-shaped aircraft still parked there, though heavy cloud cover has blocked any images since.
Belarusian opposition organization BYPOL claimed that guerrillas damaged the A-50 in an attack Sunday.
The Associated Press has been unable to independently confirm the claimed attack, which both Belarus and Russia have yet to acknowledge
Elly Schlein: Donne, Donne eterni Dei

“national divorce”
(The Hill)
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) touched a nerve across the political spectrum this week with her call for a “national divorce” that echoed the nation’s history surrounding secessionism.
Greene’s call for the U.S. to be split into two nations of red and blue states has infuriated members of both parties, while giving Republicans an unwanted headache. While Greene is known for incendiary rhetoric sure to provoke Democrats and Republicans alike, her words take on new importance now that she is a key ally of Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and serves on the House Homeland Security Committee. She also has her eyes on a possible vice presidential bid on a ticket led by former President Trump.
“That is the biggest change. … There have absolutely always been gadflies in both parties who were extremists who were kind of going places that no one was comfortable with,” Brian Rosenwald, a political historian at the University of Pennsylvania, said. “Having an extremist in Congress is not new. Having someone willing to say insane and incendiary things [is] not really new. What I think is new … is that here’s someone saying these things and doing these things and being embraced by leadership.”
Greene made similar statements in late 2021, and her latest pitch to divide the nation by political ideology came on President’s Day. She followed it up on Tuesday with an extensive Twitter thread expanding on her reasoning.
Others in her party have been notably silent on the issue.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox (R) labeled the idea “evil,” and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) tweeted that “Secession is unconstitutional. No member of Congress should advocate secession, Marjorie.”
But neither House GOP leadership nor rank-and-file Republicans in the lower chamber have responded.
Multiple GOP strategists told The Hill that some on the right are staying quiet because they believe Greene’s comments were meant to get a reaction — and help her fundraise.
“She wants you to cover it. She wants the MSNBC love so she can raise money off it. She wants people talking about it,” one GOP operative told The Hill.
A second GOP strategist echoed that thought, adding her comment doesn’t make much sense no matter how you slice it given her home state.
“Does she forget her state is kind of blue and has two Democratic senators?” a GOP operative involved in House races said. “I think it’s a lot of people just writing it off and being like ‘oh this is the shit she says.’”
“Sounds like wishful thinking,” the operative said. “She’s just trying to stir the pot a bit, and I’m sure she’ll raise some money on it.”
But Rosenwald says those dismissing Greene’s comments should do so at their own peril, especially in a party that has in recent years seen outsiders rise up and become prominent parts of the party apparatus.
“This is the problem with how things get normalized. … Part of the problem the Republican Party has had for probably 40-plus years is they roll their eyes at the fringe of the party,” Rosenwald said. “These are the people who are getting more and more popular with their base and these are the people that are getting the attention and sort of setting the agenda.”
Democrats have pounced on Greene’s comments, eager to tie her to McCarthy and the greater GOP.
“Kevin McCarthy’s shameful silence on Marjorie Taylor Greene’s divisive calls for secession of states sends a dangerous message to conspiracy theorists and anarchists,” Tommy Garcia, a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesman, said in a statement. “Apparently, upholding and defending the Constitution is merely a suggestion to the House Republican party.”
Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison tweeted, “Kev, Call your caucus…”
McCarthy’s office did not respond to a request for comment on Wednesday. Progressives call on FDA to take further action on cold and flu medicines shortage Space telescope uncovers massive galaxies near cosmic dawn
As the 2024 cycle kicks into gear, the larger concern for Republicans is that Democrats can use Greene’s comments in advertisements to pan the entire party.
Distancing themselves from Sen. Rick Scott’s (R-Fla.) call to sunset all federal legislation after five years didn’t protect other Republicans from Democratic attacks that the GOP was trying to cut Social Security and Medicare.
“It’s easy to see Democrats latching onto some of her comments and using it as a way to define the rest of the Republican Party,” a third GOP operative told The Hill. “Democrats will be anxious to use a lot of this stuff to define us as the party that has lost our way and not focused on issues that have a real chance of being put into action. Most young men are single. Most young women are not.
Daniel de Visé (The Hill )
More than 60 percent of young men are single, nearly twice the rate of unattached young women, signaling a larger breakdown in the social, romantic and sexual life of the American male.
Men in their 20s are more likely than women in their 20s to be romantically uninvolved, sexually dormant, friendless and lonely. They stand at the vanguard of an epidemic of declining marriage, sexuality and relationships that afflicts all of young America.
“We’re in a crisis of connection,” said Niobe Way, a psychology professor and founder of the Project for the Advancement of Our Common Humanity at New York University. “Disconnection from ourselves and disconnection from each other. And it’s getting worse.”
In the worst-case scenario, the young American man’s social disconnect can have tragic consequences. Young men commit suicide at four times the rate of young women. Younger men are largely responsible for rising rates of mass shootings, a trend some researchers link to their growing social isolation.
Societal changes that began in the Eisenhower years have eroded the patriarchy that once ruled the American home, classroom and workplace. Women now collect nearly 60 percent of bachelor’s degrees. Men still earn more, but among the youngest adults, the income gap has narrowed to $43 a week.
Scholars say the new era of gender parity has reshaped relationship dynamics, empowering young women and, in many cases, removing young men from the equation.
“Women don’t need to be in long-term relationships. They don’t need to be married. They’d rather go to brunch with friends than have a horrible date,” said Greg Matos, a couple and family psychologist in Los Angeles, who recently penned a viral article titled “What’s Behind the Rise of Lonely, Single Men.”
Recent years have seen a historic rise in “unpartnered” Americans, particularly among the young. The pandemic made things worse.
As of 2022, Pew Research Center found, 30 percent of U.S. adults are neither married, living with a partner nor engaged in a committed relationship. Nearly half of all young adults are single: 34 percent of women, and a whopping 63 percent of men.
Not surprisingly, the decline in relationships marches astride with a decline in sex. The share of sexually active Americans stands at a 30-year low. Around 30 percent of young men reported in 2019 that they had no sex in the past year, compared to about 20 percent of young women.
Only half of single men are actively seeking relationships or even casual dates, according to Pew. That figure is declining.
“You have to think that the pandemic had an impact on some of those numbers,” said Fred Rabinowitz, a psychologist and professor at the University of Redlands who studies masculinity.
Young men “are watching a lot of social media, they’re watching a lot of porn, and I think they’re getting a lot of their needs met without having to go out. And I think that’s starting to be a habit.”
Even seasoned researchers struggle to fully account for the relationship gap between young women and men: If single young men outnumber single young women nearly two to one, then who are all the young women dating?
Some of them are dating each other. One-fifth of Generation Z identifies as queer, and research suggests bisexual women make up a large share of the young-adult queer community.
Young women are also dating and marrying slightly older men, carrying on a tradition that stretches back more than a century. The average age at first marriage is around 30 for men, 28 for women, according to census figures.
Heterosexual women are getting more choosy. Women “don’t want to marry down,” to form a long-term relationship to a man with less education and earnings than herself, said Ronald Levant, professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Akron and author of several books on masculinity.
In previous generations, young women entered adulthood in a society that expected them to find a financially stable man who would support them through decades of marriage and motherhood. Over the 1950s and 1960s, that pattern gradually broke down, and today it is all but gone.
Women are tiring of their stereotypical role as full-time therapist for emotionally distant men. They want a partner who is emotionally open and empathetic, the opposite of the age-old masculine ideal.
“Today in America, women expect more from men,” Levant said, “and unfortunately, so many men don’t have more to give.” The same emotional deficits that hurt men in the dating pool also hamper them in forming meaningful friendships. Fifteen percent of men report having no close friendships, a fivefold increase from 1990, according to research by the Survey Center on American Life.
“Men are less naturally relational than women,” said Richard Reeves, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution whose new book, “Of Boys and Men,” has drawn wide praise.
Reeves points to a recent Saturday Night Live sketch that reimagined the neighborhood dog park as a “man park,” poking fun at “this reliance of men on women to do the emotional lifting for them.”
Social circles have been shrinking for men and women, especially since the pandemic, but men struggle more. Thirty years ago, 55 percent of men reported having six or more close friends. By 2021, that share had slipped to 27 percent.
“Women form friendships with each other that are emotionally intimate, whereas men do not,” Levant said. Young women “may not be dating, but they have girlfriends they spend time with and gain emotional support from.”
Aaron Karo and Matt Ritter, both in their early 40s, study the male “friendship recession” in their “Man of the Year” podcast. It arose out of an annual tradition of gathering at a steakhouse with several male friends, all close since elementary school.
“Guys are taught to prioritize career,” Karo said. “Also romantic relationships, although it doesn’t seem like they’re doing a very good job at that. Making friends and keeping friends seems to be a lower priority. And once guys get older, they suddenly realize they have no friends.”
The podcasters and their friends created the annual gathering as a way to keep their friendship alive. It spawned a year-round group chat and a “Man of the Year” trophy, awarded to the most deserving friend at the annual dinner.
“We treat friendship as a luxury, especially men,” Ritter said. “It’s a necessity.” Tags

Henry Holloway Published (Sun US)
VLADIMIR Putin's speech suffered a mass blackout as Russian state TV channels were reportedly hit with a huge hack attack.
The deluded dictator, 70, delivered his state-of-the-nation address to Russia just days before the first anniversary of his war in Ukraine.

But the web links of main state channels which are part of All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company [VGTRK ] were taken down as he spoke.
Instead of Putin's speech, a notice on screen announced "Mistake 500" and that "technical works" were underway.
Blacked out were not online versions of Rossiya-1, Rossiya 24 and Rossiya-Kultura.
Jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny’s team claimed Putin said the websites of Russian TV channels were subjected to a DDoS attack during Putin's speech to the Federal Assembly.
Radio Mayak - also blocked - said the web channels were hit by hackers.
There was no immediate official confirmation of hacking by the state broadcasters themselves.
Putin's highly anticipated address was punctuated with his usual rambling rhetoric - blaming anyone by himself for the war in Ukraine.
And he made a veiled nuclear threat to West as he warned Russia's very existence is now in danger.
"The goal of the West is to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, to end us once and for all," raged Putin.
"We will react accordingly, because we are talking about the existence of our country."
Moscow's nuclear doctrine clearly states their forces can use nuclear weapons when the country's "very existence" is at risk.
Putin was speaking as tonight Joe Biden will give a speech rallying support for Ukraine in Poland.
The highly symbolic duelling speeches come at a time of unprecedented tensions.
Vlad's gamble to invade Ukraine has put the world on the sharpest knife edge since the Cold War.
Flanked by four Russian tricolour flags either side, Putin went on: "[The West] intend to translate the local conflict into a global confrontation, we understand it this way and will react accordingly."
His speech came as fears loom Russian is about launch a major new offensive in bid to break the bloody deadlock with Kyiv.
Meanwhile, Biden - fresh off his visit to Kyiv - will give his speech tonight at the Royal Castle Poland.
The last time Biden spoke there - he said: "For God’s sake, [Putin] cannot remain in power."
Pinballing between topics, Vlad doubled down on his bloody war - which has seen an estimated nearly 150,000 of his soldiers die.
It comes as:Joe Biden made a surprise vist to Kyiv to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky

A top US official described Putin's accusations as "absurd", while the Ukranians said the speech showed Putin had lost touch with reality.
"Nobody is attacking Russia. There's a kind of absurdity in the notion that Russia was under some form of military threat from Ukraine or anyone else," said White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
Mykhailo Podolyak, a top aide to the Ukrainian president, said: "He is in a completely different reality, where there is no opportunity to conduct a dialogue about justice and international law."
Ageing autocrat Putin also moaned about Nazis, traitors, the Anglican Church, and even claiming paedophilia is "the norm" in the West.
He relied on the same tired old rhetoric - and went on meandering tangents talking about history and complaining about what he sees as decadence in the West.
"We are defending people's lives, but the West's goals are limitless power," moaned Putin.
Putin again tried to blame "Neo-Nazis" in Ukraine for the war - and accused the West of undermining Russia.
He complained the West is "spitting at the entire world" as he attempted to justify the violence in Ukraine.
Vlad went on: "We did everything possible, genuinely everything possible, in order to solve this problem (in Ukraine) by peaceful means.
"We were patient, we were negotiating a peaceful way out of this difficult conflict, but a completely different scenario was being prepared behind our backs."
Russia is estimated to have lost almost 150,000 soldiers in Ukraine as they are smashed against a heroic Ukrainian resistance led by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Putin's future is now seen as tied to his success or failure.
Moscow still controls one fifth of Ukraine, but has seen major battlefield defeats and hopes of a quick victory dashed.
Vlad is desperate to win to save himself - and sees the war as part of a wider conflict with the West.
Britain, the US, and other Western nations are all supporting Ukraine with weapons and supplies.
Vlad's speech comes just one day after US President Joe Biden made an unprecedented secret visit to Kyiv.
Biden doubled down his support for Ukraine in one of the biggest shows of support yet by Washington.
Putin meanwhile is believed to be attempting to get China to side with him and give him weapons.
It is a move that could reset the battlelines between East and West.
And it is one Ukrainian leader Zelensky warned could trigger World War 3.
"China is deeply worried about the continuous escalation of the conflict and possibility of the situation spiralling out of control," said Chinese minister Qin Gang.
It is feared Russia could be preparing a large new offensive - with reports of up to 500,000 soldiers gathering for an attack on Ukraine.
Ukrainian intelligence yesterday also reported that Vlad has put his nuclear forces on high combat readiness.
It has long been suggested Vlad could use the threat of nukes to force capitulation from Ukraine - or actually detonate one of the weapons to break the deadlock.

Vlad using a nuke during the war would be the first time such a weapon has been used in combat since the US dropped two bombs on Japan in 1945.
The war on the ground has remained relatively stagnant over the winter - with bloody, grinding trench warfare across the eastern flank.
Vuhledar and Bakhmut have devolved into the bloodiest battles of the war so far - with Zelensky describing them as a "living wall" against Russia.
Ukraine continues to call for more Western aid - in particular fighter jets - to finally defeat Russia.
Russia expected to be welcomed as conquering liberators when they staged their invasion nearly one year ago.
But instead of flags and cheering crowns, they were met with gunfire and brave resistance.
Putin is facing internal political pressure with the anniversary now just days away - and very little to show for the vast expenditure of blood and treasure.
It is believed that if Putin continues to fail in the war, his regime could collapse - and it could have dire consequences for Russia.
Biden's unannounced visit to Ukraine is seen as a rallying call to solidify support in the West.
The US President has seen some voices in Washington beginning to waver as he pledged a further £400million of backing for Kyiv.
However, he vowed Washington will stand with Kyiv for "as long as it takes."
Biden said: "When Putin launched his invasion nearly one year ago, he thought Ukraine was weak and the West was divided.
"He thought he could outlast us. But he was dead wrong."
"The cost that Ukraine has had to pay is extraordinarily high. Sacrifices have been far too great ... We know that there will be difficult days and weeks and years ahead."
And the Ukrainian leader hailed Biden's visit, saying it shows Russia has "no chance" to win.
"This is an unequivocal signal that Russian attempts to win will have no chance," said Zelensky.
"Together we will protect our cities, our people from the terror of Russia."
Oleksiy Danilov, Ukraine's Secretary of the National Security Council, believes Putin could unleash the new offensive on either February 23 or 24.
But he insisted the country is "ready" - vowing the war will end with Ukrainian tanks on Red Square.
"We will cope with this day as well. Yes, it will be difficult, but we will all get through", he said.
In a sit-down interview with The Sun in Kyiv, Danilov also described the Russian president as "Hitler's twin."
Danilov said: “Our tanks will be on Red Square and that will be justice.
“We didn’t start this war. We didn’t call them here.
“They invaded our territory, killed our women, our children, the elderly, and civilians.
“If we don’t give them a proper answer it is only a matter of time before they invade another country.”
Officially Kyiv’s war aims are to expel all Russian forces from Ukrainian soil — as defined by its 1991 borders.
Danilov said Russia was destined to self-destruct.
He said: “Putin will go down in history as the man who destroyed Russia.
“My greatest concern for the next 12 months is that the West does not understand that Russia will be fragmented.
“It is inevitable. It is like a volcano erupting.
“The process has already started and it cannot be stopped.”

Oscar

UN PAESE SENZA GLI STRUMENTI PER SUONARE IN EUROPA
L’IMPOSTURA DI UNA NAZIONE CHE NON C’E
by Ulrico Reali
- politici, sindacati e cittadini auspicano, chiedono, occupazione, crescita, sostegno ;
I caraibi ci aspettano....!
Egregio Direttore, SURSUM CORDA !

Siamo in Terza D.

US: Russia has committed crimes against humanity in Ukraine

MUNICH (AP) — The United States has determined that Russia has committed crimes against humanity in Ukraine, Vice President Kamala Harris said Saturday, insisting that “justice must be served” to the perpetratrors.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Harris said that the international community has both a moral and a strategic interest in pursuing those crimes, pointing to a danger of other authoritarian governments taking advantage if international rules are undermined.
“Russian forces have pursued a widespread and systemic attack against a civilian population — gruesome acts of murder, torture, rape, and deportation,” Harris said. She also cited “execution-style killings, beatings, and electrocution.”
The Biden administration formally determined last March that Russian troops had committed war crimes in Ukraine and said it would work with others to prosecute offenders. A determination of crimes against humanity goes a step further, indicating that attacks against civilians are being carried out in a widespread and systematic manner.
“Russian authorities have forcibly deported hundreds of thousands of people, from Ukraine to Russia, including children,” Harris said. “They have cruelly separated children from their families.”
She also pointed to the attack in mid-March on a theater in the strategic port city of Mariupol where civilians had been sheltering, which killed hundreds, and to the images of civilians’ bodies left on the streets of Bucha after the Russian pullback from the Kyiv area last spring.
Harris said that, as a former prosecutor and former head of California’s Department of Justice, she knows “the importance of gathering facts and holding them up against the law.”
“In the case of Russia’s actions in Ukraine, we have examined the evidence, we know the legal standards, and there is no doubt,” she said. “These are crimes against humanity.”
Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who also was attending the Munich conference, said in a statement issued as Harris spoke that “we reserve crimes against humanity determinations for the most egregious crimes.”
The new determination underlines the “staggering extent” of suffering inflicted on Ukrainian civilians and “also reflects the deep commitment of the United States to holding members of Russia’s forces and other Russian officials accountable for their atrocities,” he said.
Harris told the annual gathering of security and defense officials from around the world: “Let us all agree — on behalf of all the victims, both known and unknown, justice must be served.”
“Such is our moral interest,” she said. “We also have a significant strategic interest.”
“No nation is safe in a world where one country can violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of another, where crimes against humanity are committed with impunity, where a country with imperialist ambitions can go unchecked,” Harris added.
If Russian President Vladimir Putin succeeds in attacking international rules and norms, “other nations could feel emboldened to follow his violent example,” she said. “Other authoritarian powers could seek to bend the world to their will, through coercion, disinformation and even brute force.”
Harris’ audience Saturday didn’t include any Russian officials. Conference organizers decided not to invite them this year.
Asked on the sidelines of the event about the U.S. determination, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba replied that “Russia waged a genocidal war against Ukrainians because they do not recognize our identity and they do not think we deserve to exist as a sovereign nation.”
“Everything that stems from that is crimes against humanity, war crimes and various other atrocities committed by the Russian army in the territory of Ukraine,” he said. “Let lawyers sort out specifically which act belongs where in terms of legal qualification.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Western allies in a video address to the Munich conference on Friday to quicken their military support for Ukraine, declaring that “it’s speed that life depends on.”
Vorrei fare questa piramide 3D settimana
Kuleba voiced confidence that Ukraine would eventually receive fighter jets from its partners, despite their current reluctance. He noted that they initially pushed back on providing six other types of heavy weapons that were later delivered or promised to Ukraine — anti-tank weapons, artillery, multiple-launch rocket systems, air defense systems, tanks and long-range missiles.
“So the only outstanding type of weapon is planes,” Kuleba said.
