The real reason Donald Trump is going to lose in the end
Polling shows that while Republicans are okay with Trump’s unprofessional, classless behavior, independents are not. Independents will be the turning point in the coming election, and both sides will be wise to pay attention to those voters. Further, Donald Trump doesn’t get that he’s soon to be in the minority in America. Data shows that within many of our lifetimes, white Americans will become the minority in the United States.
The Census Bureau projects that whites will become the minority in the U.S. in less than a quarter century. That means that approximately 70% of us will see this shift occur. According to Quartz, some states have already seen the shift, including Hawaii, California, New Mexico, and the District of Columbia. According to this same piece, Hispanics will outnumber whites in Texas by 2022. Younger people won’t wait even that long. According to Quartz, the change from majority white for people under 18 will occur in 2020, just in time for the election. To make matters even worse for Trump, the Republican party is actively shrinking.
One GOP advisor told pro-Trump propaganda outlet Washington Examiner that Trump’s racist tweets “might be the worst thing he’s ever done.” If you’ve ever heard the saying “what’s done in the dark will come to the light,” that’s what’s happening here. Even though Trump puts his racism on display for everyone to see, many cannot stomach his behavior. Those people are leaving the Republican Party in droves. If doubt exists that Trump’s hate rhetoric works against him, you need look no further than the 2018 midterms when he campaigned on hate, calling immigrants “animals.” The Republicans either don’t know or don’t care that as a result, they lost 12% of the independent vote nationally according to Quartz. There is no reason to believe that trend won’t continue in the 2020 election.
Let’s face it: We all have our ideologies and beliefs. Some of those beliefs span the ideological spectrum, making it difficult to fully qualify oneself “liberal,” “conservative,” or “independent.” Donald Trump’s rhetoric, however, has helped to clarify those lines. According to the Pew Research Center, Trump’s “presidency” has pushed Americans away from the Republican Party while the number of Americans who “lean Democratic” has grown. It’s not hard to figure out from where those “leaners” came. According to Gallup, most Americans “lean independent” or identify as “independent.” These are likely the same people who believe diversity is good for the U.S. according to Pew, and they also believe the U.S. becoming a minority white country is a “good thing.”
Since Trump doesn’t read, or listen to anyone who does read, he is likely missing all of this information. He will continue to beat his hate drum and alienate a vast majority of Americans, who will take that alienation to the voting booth in 2020. Many are predicting a record turnout, which will also be a reflection of these values. So, take heart. While the mainstream media would have us believe Trump has a lock on 2020, research paints a very different picture. All we need to worry about is voting, and our majority of decency will take the victory.
