Laura Boldrini (Unhcr) chosen for her ‘career’. As regards
Europe, the laureates are Alessandro Butticé (OLAF) and
Philippe Boyer (FdR)
17th October ceremony in Jesi
Laura Boldrini, Spokesperson of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, will receive the "career" prize for the international "Journalism : press attaché of the year 2009" competition. For the sessions "communicating the European Union" the jury, chaired by Giacomo di Iaso, chose two nominees: Alessandro Butticé, Spokesperson and Head of Communication of the European Anti-Fraud Office for the public administration sector; Philippe Boyer, Head of Communication of the "Foncière des Régions" group for the private sector. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday 17th October in Jesi (An) in the conference room of the Hotel Federico II. This is the first time that the "career" prize is awarded to a female journalist, a sign that the female presence in press offices is becoming more predominant and that, in the case of Laura Boldrini, an Italian lady has devoted herself to long and intense work in the information sector of very important multilateral organisations of the UN (Fao, United Nations World Food Programme and since 1998 the UNHCR). Furthermore, through its decision, the jury wanted to emphasize to what extent the professional life of Laura Boldrini has always been dedicated to international issues, often involving national setbacks, and to social involvement, demonstrating great ability, sense of balance and intelligence in terms of the complex responsibility of managing information in accordance with international conventions on human and civil rights of refugees who flee countries at war or with dictatorial regimes. And this does not just apply to Italy, as Laura Boldrini is also responsable for and coordinates the information activities of the offices of the High Commission in Greece, Malta, Cyprus and Albania. For the sessions "Communicating the European Union", the reason behind the decision to reward Alessandro Butticè for the public sector was due to the fact that, since 2000 in Brussels, he has been the first spokesperson and head of communication at the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) of the European Commission, as well as the initiator, at European level, of the concept of "Deterring fraud and corruption through information". Furthermore, he has transmitted information on the projects and objectives of the new body to all the heads of press offices of the police and customs and judicial services from the 27 EU Member States, by initiating, creating, enlivening and managing, from 2001 to today, the "OLAF Anti-Fraud Communicators' Network" (OAFCN), which is useful, be it for the exchange of best practices in terms of conducting information and communication activities, for assisting journalists and preventing anti-social behaviour and crimes against the European Union, but also for planning joint initiatives, such as promoting European television series, in order to reduce the too great a gap separating the European Union from its taxpayers. With regards the private sector, the reason behind the recognition of Philippe Boyer was due to his ability to organise, on a multinational level, the press office of a real estate group which, from Paris, controls the organisation in various European countries, including Germany, Belgium, Portugal and
Italy. Through his work, Philippe Boyer allows journalists of different nationalities to very quickly obtain information, figures and statistics concerning his group as well as the real estate and contruction industries. The jury Prize, for 2009, also chose competitors from other sections of the competition for journalists who work in the various sectors of press offices: public administration, health; nonprofit; economy; agriculture; environment; culture, entertainment and sport. Lastly, they also bestowed laureates for the special sections "Eni-Energy", "Press Offices Group", "Marche" as well as for the best thesis by a young neo-laureate for the "New Communication" Competition. The jury, chaired by Giacomo di Iasio (instigator of the initiative) also comprises Riccardo Benvenuti (Secretary); Omar Calabrese (lecturer in semiology at the University of Siena); Renato Cantore (editor-in-chief of TgR Rai Basilicata); Carlo Felice Corsetti (former head of the press office of the Arma dei Carabinieri and consultant to the board of the national GUS for relations with Europe); Gino Falleri (Deputy Secretary-General of the Italian National Press Federation and GUS National President); Bruno Miserendino (political editor of L’Unità); Ruben Razzante (lecturer in information law at the Catholic University of Milan and Principal of the College of Journalism in Potenza); Daniele Ruscitti (editor at the ASCA press agency) and Giuseppe Tito (deputy editor-inchief of the parliamentary politics service – ANSA).
The gold book dedicated to the "career", of the international Prize "Journalism: press attaché of the year", for jobs performed in the past, features the following: Antonio Bettanini (Head of
Communication to the minister Franco Frattini), Mario Longardi (Head of the press office of Metro Goldwyn Mayer Italy and of Federico Fellini), Renzo Massarelli (Head of the press office of the Umbria region), Carlo Felice Corsetti (Head of the press office of the Arma dei Carabinieri), Giuseppe Nava (Head of the press office of RAI-Tv), Giuseppe F. Mennella (Head of the press office of the senate), Fabio Dal Boni (Head of communication and of the press office of Allianz Italy Spa).
