Donald Trump’s growing list of alleged crimes is so long, it takes a minute to recite it: conspiracy against the United States, election tampering, money laundering, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, witness intimidation, bank fraud, wire fraud, and treason. Trump has so many criminal scandals in the air, it’s easy for us to momentarily – if shamefully on our part – forget that Trump is also accused of several instances of sexual assault and rape. But Team Trump’s antics have suddenly pushed one of Donald Trump’s alleged rapes back to the forefront.
During the election, the Daily Beast quoted a book in which Donald Trump’s ex-wife Ivana Trump accused him of having violently raped her during their marriage. In response, Trump’s fixer Michael Cohen called up the reporter in question and threatened him. Cohen also falsely insisted that “you can’t rape your spouse.” This was all caught on tape, and the reporter in question just released that tape to the public.
So now, because Michael Cohen is really bad at his “fixer” job, we’re back to talking about Donald Trump’s status as an alleged rapist. If Cohen hadn’t called up and made such an absurd threat two-plus years ago, this tape wouldn’t exist, it wouldn’t have been released today, and we wouldn’t be talking about the alleged rape right now. So once again, the heavy handed and stupid tactics of Team Trump have backfired.
More than twenty women have come forward to accuse Donald Trump of sexual harassment, sexual assault, or rape. Trump has been caught admitting in graphic detail on the Access Hollywood tape that he is indeed a serial sexual assaulter. This man is an immediate danger to the safety of every woman he encounters, yet he’s the (supposed) President of the United States. We should be talking about this every day. Unfortunately sometimes it gets lost in the shuffle of his other serious crimes. But thanks to Trump’s own side, we’re talking about it again.
