The
Democratic National Committee made a deal with Hillary Clinton in 2015 that
gave her campaign a role in some party hiring and spending decisions,
according to a memo obtained by NBC News. The role related only to
preparations for the general election.
The
document, which also left the door open for other candidates to make similar
arrangements, provides more context to explosive claims made by ex-DNC
interim chair Donna Brazile in a forthcoming book. She described the
agreement as a "cancer" on the party that led Clinton rival Bernie
Sanders to be treated unfairly by the DNC during the primaries last year.
