Coronavirus

The pandemic is growing more alarming by the day. Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations are piling up at record rates, and experts fear that daily deaths may soon follow. (These charts show just how bad it is.) An influential Covid-19 model projected nearly 439,000 people could die of the virus by March 1. CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta called the crisis a "humanitarian disaster." Chicago issued a stay-at-home advisory, urging residents to leave only for essential needs and warning against Thanksgiving travel. If you are planning on visiting family, experts say you should have already started a 14-day quarantine. Dr. Anthony Fauci, too, offered advice on how to celebrate safely. Staying vigilant will be ever-important in the coming weeks -- despite encouraging vaccine data, we shouldn't expect it before the end of December at the earliest.

US presidential transition

President-elect Joe Biden will win Arizona, turning a longtime Republican stronghold blue and widening his lead over President Donald Trump, CNN projects. The projected victory comes as Trump is still trying to fight the outcome of the election, though his Republican wall of support appears to be cracking. More GOP members are asserting that Biden should get national intelligence briefings, while others are starting to see Trump's efforts to reverse the results as likely to fail. Yesterday, a group of national, state and private elections officials contradicted the President's voter fraud conspiracies, saying there is no evidence of any voting system being compromised in the 2020 election.
