The D.C. Council
voted Tuesday to build a stadium for the D.C. United soccer franchise, taking
a big step in bringing a second pro sports facility to the banks of the
Anacostia River. The deal to build a 20,000-seat facility in Southwest
Washington changed considerably after being proposed by Mayor Vincent C.
Gray, but the stadium remains on track to open in time for the team’s 2017
season.
