NYC Mayor de Blasio confirms truck attack is "act of terror."



At least eight people are dead and a male suspect is in custody after he deliberately drove a rented truck onto a bike path in lower Manhattan, hitting several bicyclists and a schoolbus. The suspect got out of the truck and shouted "Allahu Akbar" while brandishing what appeared to be weapons. He was taken to a local hospital after being shot by police.
The incident was "a particularly cowardly act of terror," said New York Mayor Bill de Blasio at a news conference. “We know this action was intended to test our spirit," he said.

Facebook says half of eligible U.S. voters saw Russian-backed content
An estimated 126 million Americans, roughly one-third of the nation’s population, were exposed to Russian-backed content on Facebook during the 2016 campaign, according to prepared testimony the company submitted Monday to the Senate Judiciary Committee and obtained by NBC News.
The testimony showed that the 80,000 or so fake Russian-backed pages were widely liked and shared by Facebook users, meaning that three times more people saw it than the original recipients. The testimony is part of the congressional inquiry into Russia’s use of social media platforms to try to influence last year’s U.S. presidential election.

Manafort, Gates indicted on 12 charges, including conspiracy against the United States
Ex-Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort and his longtime business associate Rick Gates were indicted by a federal grand jury on 12 charges, including conspiracy against the U.S., Special Counsel Robert Mueller's office announced Monday.
Other charges against Manafort and Gates include money laundering and being an unregistered foreign agent. The grand jury said Manafort enjoyed a "lavish lifestyle" spending millions of dollars from illegal lobbying work for Ukrainian leaders, without paying taxes on the money.
