Ci siamo: inizia la traversata dell'America di un'auto senza guidatore. Come leggete qui sotto la vettura avra' a bordo anche un pilota umano per intervenire in caso di bisogno. Ma come ha affermato Elon Musk, il geniale proprietario della Tesla e di altre aziende d'avanguardia, le auto che viaggiano da sole sono una realta' non piu' futuribile ma presente. Il problema e' costituito dalle leggi degli stati che dovranno regolamentarne l'uso, dalla rete di colonnine per la ricarica identificabili via GPS e, soprattutto, dalla voglia degli americani di mettere la propria vita nelle mani si fa per dire di un robot. Tenendo pero' presente che sulle strade della Federazione girano centinaia di migliaia di persone ubriache, drogate, superanziane o sedicenni, con una attenzione alla guida identica a quella di aprire la porta del frigorifero, beh: forse l'autopilota puo' essere la soluzione piu' sana.

(SAN FRANSISCO) — A self-driving car is set to start a road trip across the country Sunday.
The 3,500-mile trip from California to New York is the longest automated drive ever attempted in North America.
Delphi Automotive PLC’s vehicle is the driverless-car making the trip, according to a press release.
Delphi’s Chief Technology Officer Jeff Owens said the car has been successfully tested on streets in California and Las Vegas, but the cross-country trip will be the car’s “ultimate test.”
“The vehicle will be challenged under a variety of driving conditions from changing weather and terrain to potential road hazards — things that could never truly be tested in a lab,” the release says.
The car is supposedly able to navigate 4-way stops, merge onto highways and even maneuver around bicyclists — all without a driver.
There will be a driver in the car ready to take over if need be, Delphi spokeswoman Kristen Kinley said. The driver can take control of the car immediately in case of emergency, she said.
The coast-to-coast trip is scheduled to start near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco on Sunday.
